Adding PayPal as a Payment Method
ReservationKey supports integration with PayPal to allow guests to make secure online payments directly from your booking page.
Follow the steps below to add and configure PayPal as a payment option for your guests.
Step 1: Access the Payment Methods Section
- Click the Website tab at the top of your ReservationKey account.
- Select Payment Methods from the menu.
- Click Add Payment Method.
Step 2: Select PayPal
- From the list of available processors, choose PayPal.
- Click Continue to open the PayPal configuration screen.
Step 3: Enter Your PayPal Details
In the PayPal setup window, complete the following fields:
- PayPal Email Address: Enter your PayPal account email (e.g.,
billing@yourdomain.com
).
- Return URL (optional): If you want guests to be redirected to a specific “Thank You” page after completing payment, enter that URL here.
Most users leave this blank to use the default ReservationKey confirmation page.
- Cancel URL (optional): If you want to redirect guests to a custom page on your website when they cancel payment, enter that URL here.
Again, most users leave this field blank.
- Currency: Choose your desired currency (default is USD).
- Payment Manipulation (optional): If you want to add a surcharge (e.g., to cover PayPal fees), enter the amount or percentage such as
3%
.
Otherwise, leave it blank or set it to zero.
Step 4: Choose Which Pages Use PayPal
Scroll down and select which Reservation Pages should use this PayPal method.
Note that PayPal is designed for public reservation pages only — it cannot be used for internal reservations.
Click Save Changes when finished.
Step 5: Configure Your Payment Schedule
Next, set how much deposit or payment is required when a guest books online:
- Still under the Website tab, click Reservation Pages.
- Open the page where you enabled PayPal.
- Scroll to the Payment Schedule section.
- Specify the amount or percentage of the total to collect at the time of booking (for example,
100%
or 50%
).
- Click Save Changes.
This deposit amount will be the total charged when guests are redirected to PayPal to complete their reservation.
Step 6: Test Your PayPal Setup
To ensure everything is working correctly:
- Open your Reservation Page.
- Make a test booking and select PayPal as the payment option.
- Verify that the system redirects to the PayPal payment screen.
- Complete the test payment using a PayPal sandbox or secondary PayPal account if desired.
- After completing payment, confirm that the reservation appears correctly in ReservationKey.
Summary
Adding PayPal as a payment method allows guests to complete bookings using one of the most trusted online payment systems.
You can also customize return and cancel URLs, choose your preferred currency, and even add a small surcharge if desired.
Once configured and saved, PayPal payments will automatically be processed through your PayPal account, and ReservationKey will record the transaction details under each reservation.
